Did you know that Hotel Valley Ho was once a Hollywood hideaway? In its heyday, the hotel was host to Bing Crosby, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh, Natalie Wood, and Zsa Zsa Gabor, among others! Designed by acclaimed architectural firm Edward L. Varney Associates, Hotel Valley Ho is considered one of the best-preserved Mid-Century Modern hotels in the country. Explore the hotel’s classic design elements during a 90-minute walking tour of the buildings and grounds with resident historian Ace Bailey.
Ace Bailey has worked in the arts and tourism fields for over 20 years. Prior to establishing Ultimate Art & Cultural Tours she designed and conducted art tours both locally and throughout the Southwest, Seattle, and the Northwest. In 2010, Ace was appointed to the Scottsdale Tourism Development Commission. Currently she hosts the Magical History Tour at the Hotel Valley Ho.
Dances from the Big Band Era

Get ready to tap your toes with Steve Conrad and pals! In this fun, movement-based seminar you will learn dances from the 1940s and ‘50s, a period when Swing music was Pop music. These partner dances include East Coast Swing (aka 6-count Lindy Hop), and Collegiate. Traditionally, these dances are paired with Swing music, but these same dance steps can be translated to the surf rock dance floor! No experience necessary, no partner needed. Please wear comfortable shoes.
Steve Conrad, founder and director of the Arizona Lindy Hop Society, has taught dance for over 29 years. He has taught around the world and has been featured on The Bachelorette, House Hunters, and more. He helped lead a program for teaching ballroom dance to people experiencing homelessness and has used dance as a healing modality for children in the foster care system. In 2021, Phoenix Mayor Gallego declared April 29th "Steve Conrad Day" for his contribution to dance and the arts in Phoenix.

Through concept art and behind-the-scenes stories, this talk reveals the many lands and attractions that were planned but never built. These unrealized ideas would have made Disneyland a very different place. From Discovery Bay, International Land, and Big City USA, you’ll have a fun-filled walk through an alternate version of the Happiest Place on Earth.
David “Dr. Skipper” Marley is a former Disneyland Jungle Cruise skipper, author, and history lecturer at California State University, Fullerton. The second edition of his most recent book, The Jungle Cruise: The Wild History of Walt's Wildest Ride, was released at Arizona Tiki Oasis in 2024. A former professional stand up comic, Marley regularly presents at conventions across the country, and receives uproarious laughter from his audiences.

Learn to play the ukulele in one day! Steve Conrad and Dana Stephenson help you master the basics of the ukulele in this fun class. During this strum and sing session you will learn chords, strums, and fingerpicking styles for simple songs including surf rock, swing, and rockabilly tunes. Conrad and Stephenson enjoy sharing their love for the ukulele by creating fun and easy-to-follow classes for students of all ages. Beginners are welcome, as well as seasoned players looking to jam. No experience necessary. Free event.
Instructors Steve Conrad and Dana Stephenson have taught at Mesa Arts Center, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Arizona Musicfest, Tiki Oasis, and before performances of Jake Shimabukuro. Steve and Dana are members of the Ukabillies, a ukulele band that performs for Arizona audiences. Most notably the group play at the Rhythm Room each year for an Elvis Presley birthday celebration

In honor of Disneyland's 70th anniversary, Dr. Skipper will take you on a journey through the history of some of the park’s rides that have come and gone. Some, like the People Mover, were popular, while others like The Phantom Boats, were gone in a flash. This fun filled journey is a brand new talk from Dr. Skipper and features beautiful photographs and hilarious stories of why some of these rides couldn’t stand the test of time. You’ll learn what it was like to work these rides as well as ride them, in a talk that’s guaranteed to be a joke filled trip down memory lane.
